Macmanus (1869-1960) emmigrated from Donegal to America, where he became known as a prominent storyteller; his "Story of the Irish Race" was originally published in 1921 and remains popular and in print today. Earlier he was more of a folk-lorist and Irish nationalist. First published in 1899. This is a Near Fine copy of the Second ["Special"] Edition. Dark blue ribbed cloth binding with gilt titling and decorations on the spine. Clean text; xii, Contents, Illustrations, 281 pages; Top-edge is gilt. With a frontis illustration and 14 others by Pamela Colman Smith. Tiny bit of rub to the foot of the spine, else a Fine copy, the best seen by Quercus. In an archival plastic protector.. Second Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/No Jacket. Illus. by Pamela Colman Smith. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
