London: Spring Books. FINE book, GOOD DJ. With laid in errata slip re the 6 color plts. [1964]. 1st edition.. Hardcover. FINE book, GOOD DJ(in Brodart). Bowed upper board. DJ bright & clean, but w many 1" chips & tears, and one 6" tear. . With nearly 250 photographic plates, six in color, by Werner Forman. The six color plates are glued to a heavier stock than the other b/w. All these b/w plates are printed directly on both sides of the leaves. The errata slip reads: "The Publishers have decided not to include one of the original colour plates as doubts were raised at the last minute as to the authenticity of the object depicted." The deleted color plate was of a unicorn. The replacement, "Mandarin square, Embroidery, 19th century" was placed at the end of the book. The color plates are numbered in Roman numerals from I to VI. Arabic for all the b/w. When the replacement color plate was inserted the location of 4 of the color plates was moved. The problem is that the plate index was not changed to reflect the changed page numbers. Furthur, the errata slip does not give the location for these rearranged plates. A typed list with my additions to the errata slip laid in. .
