Rare Association Copy!

Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "With the very best of wishes of one scribbler of the English language to another of more able slates. From Stan to Phelp." For H. Phelps Clawson of the Marine Trust Co. Buffalo, New York at the Buffalo Museum of Sciences.

Provenance: Hamilton Phelps Clawson (1892-1975) was a poet, archaeologist, banker, magazine manager, and museum director. Phelps began work as an archaeologist for the Harvard University - Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition in Egypt and the Sudan. He was part of the discovery of the tomb of Queen Hetep-heres, mother of Cheops (builder of the Great Pyramid at Giza). During the 1930s, he was appointed Curator of Anthropology at the Buffalo Museum of Science. Settling in Chatham, New York, he would be instrumental in the creation of the Shaker Museum and Library.

Very rare thusly signed.

Stanley Charles Nott (1904-1957) was born in Wimbledon, England to the noted Gurdjieff scholar, Charles Nott. Dr. Nott was an eminent dealer of Chinese jade in the United States, and author of more than 17 books and films on Chinese art and culture. He is known for his works Chinese Jade Throughout the Ages and Voices from the Flowery Kingdom.
