About This Item

New York : Little Leather Library Corporation, 1921. Flexible Boards. Very Good. 48mo - over 3 - 4" tall. Two variants of Honoré de Balzac's "Christmas in Flanders and Other Stories". The last stories differ; in one variant, the last story is "Lost by a Laugh"; in the other, "Christmas". The former is About Very Good, the latter About Near Fine. See scans and description. New York: Little Leather Library Corporation, undated but circa 1921. 48mo - a miniature book, 3 7/8" tall; green and copper flexible leatherette boards, first variant 123 pp., second variant 121 pp. (chronological order of printing not known). First variant is About Very Good; moderate chip at front cover, top, and the ffep is age-toned and fragmented (scan). Second variant is About Near Fine, about as good as the fragile Little Leather Library series gets, with no salient flaws other than the standard age-toning to the endpapers; contents in both examples are quite bright and un-toned, and the amount of copper-color remaining in the copper-and-green binding is quite good in both cases (these little pieces often started out without much of the copper color). Zoom on scans. Both are the Redcroft edition of the Little Leather Library series of promotional miniatures. All such versions from LLL would have been treated as ephemera at the time. Scarce now. The title Honoré de Balzac story is the short, but perhaps somewhat enigmatic for him, story of an ostensible miracle for which the Convent of Mercy was built in Ostend. An interesting variant twosome, in better than average combined condition for this fragile series. For the collector of miniatures, literature, or ephemera. See all scans. Ships in a new, sturdy, protective box - not a bag. LSMPH2
