About This Item

Paris, France: Editions Du Centre Pompidou Paris, 2019. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. As New/No Dust Jacket, As Issued.. Paris, France: Editions Du Centre Pompidou Paris, 2019. Hardcover. As New/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 280 pages. Exhibition Monograph. The last major retrospective, originally conceived and organized as such by Christian Boltanski himself. The first and only edition. Published in a small and limited print run as a hardcover original only. An Import title, none of the copies was commercially sold in the United States. The First Edition is now scarce. A brilliant production by Christian Boltanski: Oversize-volume format. Pale-gray hard boards with reproduction pasted in front and red titles embossed on the cover and spine, as issued. Art by Christian Boltanski. Text in French by Bernard Blistene in conversation with the artist. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in Paris, France to the highest standards. The reproduction quality is exemplary in every respect. Without DJ, as issued. Published on the occasion of the landmark exhibition of the same name held at Centre Pompidou Paris from November 13, 2019 through March 16, 2020. Presents Christian Boltanski's "Faire son temps". His valedictory exhibition. The title is a strong suggestion: "Take your time". Tarrying being the true mode of the aesthetic experience. "Thirty-five years have passed since Christian Boltanski's first exhibition at the Centre Pompidou. Conceived by Boltanski as a wandering in the heart of his work, the exhibition is less a retrospective than a sequence of moments marking the stages and metamorphoses of his remarks. His work, nourished by life, death, hardships, and mourning, is thus approached from an unprecedented angle, completing an exclusive and sincere dive into the heart of the artist" (Publisher's blurb) . Christian Boltanski died shortly afterwards, at the height of the pandemic, on July 14, 2021. Now that he is dead, the grief one feels for the vanished Life is somehow mitigated by the timeless beauty of the Art. An absolute "must-have" title for Christian Boltanski collectors. This copy is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed and inscribed in black ink-pen on the title page by Christian Boltanski. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. It is one of the very last books he signed before his untimely passing. The recipient, who is named, was a close friend of the artist and cannot be named here. This title is a great art book. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: An Import title, none of the copies was sold in the United States. A rare signed copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with black-and-white and color plates. One of the greatest artists of the 20th century and our time. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER CHRISTIAN BOLTANSKI TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 2844268609.
