New endpapers. ix, 423 pp., publisher's ads. Light foxing to edges of text block and some light sporadic foxing and edge toning to interior. Neat pencil marginalia. An important Amero-Liberian thinker and writer, Edward Wilmot Blyden was one of the founding fathers of the Pan-Africanism movement, to end colonialism. His writings were quite popular, making him one of the most renowned black authors of the time. In this scarce first edition work, Blyden comments on the impacts of the colonization in Africa, Christian missions, and liberal education for Africans.
