An original watercolour painting of Common Ash, Fraxinus excelsior by Christina Hart-Davies, signed in pencil lower middle. Image 320 x 290 mm, frame 560 x 510 mm. Mounted and framed using the "Alphamat Artcare Archival System." Double acid-free mount, the upper of which slightly marked to bottom left corner. Tastefully understated frame with partially gilt inner section. The painting in very good condition, bright and unmarked. Provenance; with label to the reverse stating "Society of Botanical Artists, Westminster Central Hall, 16 April - 24 April 1999 and the price of £280. [Biography - Christina Hart-Davies Botanical artist for over forty years with Four Gold Medals awarded by the Royal Horticultural Society in London for paintings of mosses and lichens: 1984, 1986, 1988, 1992. One RHS Gold Medal (1993) and a World Orchid Conference Bronze (1993) for paintings of European and Australian Terrestrial orchids. RHS Gold Medal for paintings of British lichens, 2018Many successful exhibitions in Britain and abroad, notably at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and in galleries in Brisbane. Her work is held in collections worldwide, the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, The Shirley Sherwood Collection of Contemporary Botanical Art, The RHS and RBG Kew.
