[San Francisco]: [Printed by the Grabhorn Press for Gelber, Lilienthal, Inc.], 1935. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Very good. Number 149 of 200 copies, quarto size, [6] pp., signed by William Saroyan. A fine example of printing from the Grabhorn Press, and of prose from American novelist William Saroyan (1908-1981), winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1940, and one of the best-known Armenian-American authors. This short story was written only a year after Saroyan made his breakthrough in "Story" magazine with "The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze" (1934), and is a heart-warming, thoughtful discourse on the season: "In 1935, in the great wastes of America, undiscovered, there shall be inward laughter and endless innocence. . .the clamor of great men and fools ends in the silence of life beginning again, and for an hour, Lord, there is purity. . .".
