Book These are two books about the famous Christmas Truce of 1914 between British, French and German soldiers along the Western Front of World War I. Brown and Seaton provide us with a history of the event that is drawn heavily from contemporary accounts, particularly letters from the soldiers to family and friends back home, many of which were published in English newspapers. This paperback copy, published in 2001, is in the Pan Grand Strategy Series and is reprinted from the 1994 revised and expanded edition. It has two maps and three sections of illustrations (including many photographs taken of the middle-ground meetings), printed on coated stock. Cleaven and Park work with a group of volunteers called "Operation Plum Pudding" who have been combing through newspapers from across the U.K. to find letters about the truce written home by the British soldiers and printed in the papers. Transcripts of those letters are posted online. This book tells the story of the truce through some of the eyewitness accounts they have discovered. It was not "published" in the usual sense. It is available in two forms: as an e-book and through a print-on-demand service. This paperback copy came from that service, printed, appropriately, on December 24, 2014--the 100th anniversary of the Truce. "Christmas Truce" is in Very Good+ condition. There is a small (1/8") of loss at the top of the front cover, but the corners are sharp and the spine has no creasing. The text block is tight and unmarked, although the pages are a bit browned from the cheap paper used in the printing. "Not a shot was fired" is in Like New condition.
