Paris: Collection Hetzel, 1914. Hardcover. Good. [2], 267, [1] p., 3 leaves of color plates: many in-text illustrations, 1 2-page map; 28 cm. Publisher's red cloth with gilt-stamped title and decoration on spine and front board; publisher's emblem blind-stamped on back board. All page edges gilt. Light blue-green endpapers. Series title on spine: "Voyages Extraordinaires." "Les Mondes Connus et Inconnus" -- on front board below title. No date of publication, as was usual for Hetzel. "Hachette et Cie." -- on front board, indicating this was issued after Hetzel was acquired by Hachette in 1914. The binding found here was used by Hachette in 1914 through 1919. Printed by Gauthier-Villars; listed on the half title verso and the last page with the code 45159. This was the first of the Voyages Extraordinaires by Jules Verne. In Good Condition: lacking lower third of cloth from spine; fraying along edges of the remainder with minor loss at head of spine; corners of boards are rubbed; cloth is somewhat soiled; pages are browning with occasional soiling and foxing; 5-cm. closed tear from fore-edge of pp. 67-68; otherwise, pages and plates are clean and tight.
