Boston; (1955): Little Brown and Co. First Edition. Octavo. 454pp., This is the story of one of the bitterest conflicts in American History. Int the territory created by the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 hot-blooded abolitionists and slaveholders proved North and South irreconcilable and their furious struggle deeply influenced national politics and hastened the advent of the Civil war. The political battle raged from Topeka to Washington. Bound in light blue cloth tamped in dark blue, spine lettering ark blue, some fading to spine end edges. A very good copy in unclipped pictorial dust jacket, rubbed with wear to spine ends crease along bottom edge of front panel.
