About This Item

Toronto: Clarke, Irwin and Company/Jonathan Cape, 1972. First Canadian Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. Very Good Plus/Very Good. Black paper over boards, title stamped in silver onto spine, top edge stained red, headband, 8vo (8-1/2 inches tall), pp. 381, colored endpapers. Volume with tail of spine slightly softened, letter "R" in ink at top of half-title and a light bump to upper corner of text block edge. Price-intact DJ with rubbing and a thin line of discoloration/rubbing along top and bottom edges, a small bleed from top edge stain at top of back flap and a razor thin 1-1/2 inch long line of lamination overlap at spine panel. Deighton's look at Hollywood and the film world - here in the uncommon first Canadian edition - published by Clarke, Irwin in association with Jonathan Cape. Jacket by Raymond Hawkey. Deighton said "...[Close-Up] was a safety valve; something I did instead of murdering certain movie people." This Canadian edition is not listed in the Milward-Oliver bibliography.
