About This Item

New York - Chicago: A. L. Burt Company, 1929. Hardcover. Near Fine/Good. Olive green cloth boards stamped in yellow. Ends of spine lightly pushed. Interior is clean and unmarked. Dust jacket is chipped and edgeworn; spine is faded and missing bottom inch; in a clear archival sleeve. [Dust jacket shows a complete list of fiction on its reverse side]. 321, plus [8] pages listing other recently published titles in fiction. 7.3 x 4.75 inches. Just as the villa in the little French town of Cluny is recovering from a daring jewel theft, Mr. Brownlow and Sir Anthony Cross are found dead in one of its rooms, the door locked from the inside. The French police make their assessment, the coroner his inquest, a confession is found but contradicted. Mr. Pointer, a detective of Scotland Yard, discreetly observes. A. Fielding was a pseudonym of the British author Dorothy Feilding (b. 1884). Little is known about this author, though about two dozen of her mysteries were published between 1924 and 1937. She was reported to have been a resident in the Kensington district of London.
