Frontispiece of a girl and her cat + 13 woodcuts + 8 tailpieces. 16.2 x 10.3cm blue cloth gilt title to cover and both boards prettily blindstamped (corners worn and bumped/edges rubbed/neatly respined). Newer endpapers 63pp including frontis + titlepage + contents and advertisements at end. There are 12 stories each with a dialogue between a mother and either a boy or a girl. Top of titlepage has an ink inscription "David George Gregorie May 1866" and 2 small holes not affecting text. Two other leaves with damage to blank margins, some small chips to corners or other edges but nothing near the printed area. *Reissue of work by Lady Eleanor Fenn published in various editions from about 1783, starting with The Cat in words of three letters, The Farm-Yard in words of four letters, The Toy-Shop, The Baby House, chiefly in words of six letters, etc. With delightful small illustrations reproduced from editions published about 1820.
