Miguet), slipcase, (original wrappers bound in). Manolo Hugué, pseudonym of Manuel Martínez Hugué (Barcelona, ??1872-1945). Sculptor, one of the most important on the Catalan and Spanish scene of the 20th century. - Forger of a very personal concept of realism, linked in some way to the Noucentista project, it is impossible to consider him an avant-garde in the strict sense. However, close, in Paris and in Céret, to Picasso whom he had known since the time of Els Quatre Gats to Juan Gris, to Frank Burty thanks to whom he settled in Céret , to José María Junoy who wrote about him in his first book to Déodat de Séverac in 1923 he created a monument to his memory in Céret , he assimilated, at the beginning of the 1910s, some aspects of cubism, a fact that we must note, as well as his contract with Kahnweiler which lasted until 1933, and the result of which was his 1923 individual at the Galerie Simon , his participation in the Armory Show (New York, 1913), his individual the following year in the same city at the Little Gallery of Alfred Stieglitz, the avant-garde space par excellence of that Manhattan -, his engravings for Coeur de Chêne (1921) by Pierre Reverdy, the influence he had on the sculptor Modigliani, or his presence in the pages of magazines such as Hèlix - where Carlos Clavería wrote about him, Proa, Litoral or, already in the 1930s, Art de Lérida. - From his individual performance at the Galeries Laietanes in 1917, he participated in Barcelona's artistic life, highlighting his presence in some collectives of the Agrupació Courbert. He participated in the SAI exhibitions in Copenhagen (1932) and Berlin (1933); in the latter city he held singles with Alfred Flechteim in 1929 and 1931. - Parallel to his sculptural work were his painting and his poetry, which began in 1901, and with a poem in French, "Je suis le peuple tumultueux." He spent the last years of his life in Caldas de Montbui, where he moved his residence in 1928, and where during the Civil War he treated Wilfredo Lam. Pierre Reverdy (1889-1960). The great cubist poet published a book on Picasso (1924), which he had illustrated with Cravates d etchings. Beautifu. copy in an extraordinary binding.
