About This Item

New York, New York, U.S.A.: Random House, 1966. Book Club (BCE/BOMC) . Hardcover. Very Good/Good. The cornerstone of the "new journalism"--the nonfiction novel--of the late 1960s, this book remains the pinnacle of true-crime writing. Capote became obsessed with this case & the perpetrators of this horrific stranger killing of the entire Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas, in 1959. The bodies of killers Richard Hickock & Perry Smith were exhumed in 2012 in attempt to link their DNA to another unsolved familicide in Florida, where they are known to have traveled shortly after killing the Clutters. Orig. serialized in the New Yorker in 1965 & published in hardcover in 1966, this is a Book Club Edition (BCE), with the original burgundy cloth-covered boards lettered in gilt to front & spine. Hardcover 8vo is in VG condition: very clean, pages creamy white & unmarked, binding strong & straight, hinges secure. Modest rubbing & fading to extremities. The unclipped, unpriced DJ is just Good, downgraded due to many small chips, heavy at both ends of spine, corners, & top back edge; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover free! Our photos depict the exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping if ordered by 2 pm weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day. We are also offering a true First Edition of this book; please see our listing #023786.
