Chicago: Argus Books at The Peacock Press, 1930. Limited Ed. First Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Austen, John. The Argus Books limited edition of 1930 (completed December 1929), limited to 2000 unnumbered copies. Designed, set-up and printed at The Peacock Press, Chicago. Hardcover in dust jacket and the scarce slipcase. Black cloth gilt with bevelled edges. All clean and bright with minor wear to spine tips and bottom edge. Top edges bright gilt. Untrimmed fore edge. A clean copy without bookplates, foxing or markings other than 2 small stains to the bottom edges of the back endpapers. The front free endpaper bears a pencil inscription to Simon [Relph], the film producer/director from whose estate this book was acquired. This is lightly done and could be erased. There are 16 erotic colour plates with tissue guards in a web design, plus a colour title page illustration and b/w chapter headings, all by John Austen. 293 pp. Firmly bound. The illustrated dust jacket is lightly age-toned with sunning to the spine, a few tiny tears, and minor loss to the spine head. The book is protected by the publisher's black slipcase which is in good condition with rubbing to corners and some edges. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall.
