Extremities rubbed. Bookplate of G. Stephenson to FEP, scattered foxing. A coherent sammelband of 44 pamphlets by John Christopher Augustus Voelcker (1822-1884) on agricultural chemistry and associated subjects. Voelcker made a valuable contribution to the application of chemistry to practical farming, serving as chemistry professor to the Cirencester Agricultural College (1849-63) and as consulting chemist to the Royal Agricultural Society (1857-1884). Whilst residing in London (from 1863) his advice was constantly sought in technical and legal inquiries, such as questions of sewage and metropolitan water supply. The present collection covers a wide range of topics, from soil composition, the commercial value of artificial manures, milk production, and poisonous cheese. .

Concentrating on hand-press printing and early modern manuscripts, we pride ourselves on offering a varied selection of antiquarian works on a diverse range of subjects, leaning towards the interesting, the important, and the unusual.

We also offer a valuation service (for either insurance or probate purposes), as well as advice on library development.
