About This Item
Nancy, Grosjean, s.d. (c.1865). 12mo. 2 leaves and 60 small paper folders containing 1 slice of wood each, with a pasted label showing the specimen's latin name. In leaves, in a half-chagrin slipcase forming a binding, preserved in a cardboard slipcase (Binding of the period). First Edition. An extremely rare work consisting of 60 double leaves, each containing an extremely thin strip of a different tree variety. Each lamella is attached to the second flap of the double leaflet, in which an oval window has been cut, allowing each species of wood to be observed through transparency, and its structure and particularities (veins, etc.) to be noted. This work was intended for students at the Ecole Forestière de Nancy. The author was a professor of forestry and forest inspector in Hohenheim. Some copies contain 4 additional pages of text. A very fine copy.
