Firenze: Successori Le Monnier, 1896., 1896.. Very good. - Octavo, 7-1/4 inches high by 4-3/4 inches wide. Hardcover, bound in full black morocco by Blackwell with elaborate gilt art nouveau floral designs titled with decorations in gilt between raised bands on the spine with a sinewy gilt frame with floral corner decorations adorning both covers. The binding is further enhanced with gilt inner dentelles and marbled endpapers. The top edge is gilt. The corners of the covers are bumped and spine is very slightly faded and rubbed. xxvii, 762 & 112 page "rimario della divina commedia". The inner edge of the front blank is starting to crack and there is some slight foxing to the verso of the endpapers and blank leaves. The pages are darkened. A very good attractive book.

From the library of Sophie Cary Storer with her bookplate. On her bookplate is the well-known quote from Dante: "Se tu segui tua stella, non puoi fallire a glorioso porto" - Canto 15, Inferno. (If you follow your star, you cannot fail to reach the glorious port.) When she lived in Ridgefield, Connecticut Sophie Cary Knox was Mrs. Albert H. Storer, a founder of the Ridgefield Garden Club and its first president. In fact, the club's first meeting June 9, 1914, was in her Main Street house. Mrs. Storer was a well-known civic leader in the first third of the 20th Century, and had been a pillar in the Village Improvement Society, which she helped found in 1899, and in St. Stephen's Church. Her husband was also active in the church, was on the board of the library, and served on the school board.
