Unique handwritten shaped poem in the form of a tree, accomplished in black felt tip on an off-white 8.5 x 11 sheet, SIGNED and TITLED at the bottom, "Common Shade Tree,-Erskine Caldwell." RARE & in Near FINE Condition. Caldwell has composed a shaped poem with acrostic tendencies. The shape, layers, and parts of the tree are comprised of words such as "Tree," "Leaves," "Leaf," "Limb," "Bark," "Trunk," "Background," and "Foreground." Erskine Caldwell (1903 - 1987) was an American novelist. short story writer, and poet. His writings about poverty, racism and social problems in his native Southern United States in novels such as Tobacco Road and God's Little Acre won him critical acclaim. Caldwell wrote 25 novels, 150 short stories, twelve nonfiction collections, two autobiographies, and two books for young readers.--Wikipedia.
