About This Item

New York: E.P. Dutton & Company, 1915. Hardcover. Red cloth covered boards, decorated in gilt. Very good. [151 pages. 18.5 x 12.5 cm. This lovely cookbook was compiled during the first World War. The editor, Mrs. Brian Luck, received these recipes from "Belgian refugees from all parts of the United Kingdom...(so that) British cooking may benefit by the study of Belgian dishes." Mrs. Luck has a wonderful sense of humor, remarking in the preface: Savories: If you serve these, let them be, like an ankle, small and neat and alluring; Vegetables: Nearly all these are at their best (like brunettes) just before they are fully mature. Most recipes are attributed to their authors. Interior clean, boards rubbed at edges. [BITTING 295]
