New York: Carlton & Porter, 1867. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Poor. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, original 1867 publication and not a newer reprint. Exterior is in very poor shape with heavy spotting to the cloth and spine is completely missing and broken loose on one side. Internal binding of the text pages is good and all pages are attached but front hinge has an ugly break though the rear hinge is still good. There is separation starting at page 606 to where the remaining portion of the book is held on only by the several sections of binder strings. Paper is toned due to age and spotting and foxing is present throughout with some pages showing heavy foxing. Tissue guard on frontispiece is still present and attached as are most of the lithograph tissues, though a couple are missing. Good candidate for rebinding or for reference purposes. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found. There are a couple newspaper clippings that were found between the pages appear to be from the mid-19th century. These were placed inside a acid-free archival bag and left in the book so they would not react the pages. Book is in poor condition but complete.

Purchases will ship by US Media Mail or Priority Mail (if buyer selects) and higher priced items may have insured placed on the order and will typically ship within one business day. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 5 lbs., but only in unusual cases. Insurance is available upon request though we normally place insurance on any item of $75 or higher at no additional cost to the buyer. Non-US sales will ship by First Class International or Global Priority. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 4 lbs.
We always take extra care in packaging and shipping. Books are typically wrapped in packing paper or bubblewrap before packaged in a sturdt shipping box. All orders, even those shipped by US Media Mail, will be given a USPS tracking number which will be sent to the buyer so they will know when to expect arrival. Please let us know if there is a book with incorrect or missing photos. We recently moved the inventory to Biblio and a title or two may have had issues with the photos being transferred over.

Yesterday's Book Shop is an independent, family-owned establishment. The store first opened in 1966 under the name Collector's Corner and was located in Western Maryland. The Collector's Corner dealt mainly in books but also sold stamps and assorted ephemera. In 1975 the name was changed to Yesterday's Book Shop when the store only offered books and printed matter. In the early 2000s the brick and mortar store was closed and now we only sell online.
