London: Heinemann, 1959. 1st. hardback. Very good 1st edition, with unclipped d/j (good, some rubbing and foxing at edges ). Blue boards and spine with clean gilt titling and blind pressed Heinemann logo on back board. Text block firm, pages unmarked with only a little foxing, mainly endpapers. Owner's neat inscription ffep.. 12mo (190 x 130 / 7_"" x 5""). Consisting of two acts (each of two scenes), the play revolves around an affair between Mary Rhodes and Clive Root, the book seller friend of her husband, Victor. The play takes place in the Rhodes family home and an Amsterdam guesthouse. It's first production was produced by John Gielgud in June 1959, with a cast including Ralph Richardson and Paul Scofield.
