First of the Nicholas edition, one of the best editions of this fishing classic. Two volumes. pp. [16], ccxii, [2], 129; [2], [131]-436, [32]; + frontispiece portrait with tissue guard in volume I. 60 other engravings in text from designs by Thomas Stothard, J. Inskipp, and others. The text is that of the fifth edition of 1676, the last to be revised by the author, with footnotes about the text changes from the previous editions. Bound in old half brown morocco and light brown cloth, spines with raised bands with gilt decorated compartments and gilt lettering; all edges gilt and gauffered, page green endpapers. Some offset tanning to tissue guard and some pages adjacent to the engravings, as usual; offset browning to margins of free endpapers; front inner hinges neatly repaired with coloured rice paper matching the endpapers; mild wear to outer corners neatly touched up; occasional foxing in text margins; in all, a handsome VG+ copy in an attractive binding, no previous owner names. 5 kg parcel; Quarto .
