About This Item
1974. 1st Edition. Soft cover. Very Good. The unauthorized collections of previously published stories that prompted a lawsuit and caused Salinger to give his first interview in sixteen years to express his displeasure: "Some stories, my property, have been stolen...Someone's appropriated them. It's an illicit act. It's unfair. Suppose you had a coat you liked and somebody went into your closet and stole it. That's how I feel." ("J.D. Salinger Speaks About his Silence", Lacey Fosburgh, The New York Times, November 3, 1974). Toning with age, smudges from handling to the covers of both volumes. Both bear the name of a previous owner, "Pat Lamerdin", Patricia Lamerdin, the San Francisco potter, painter, and gallery owner (who apparently used her cheques as bookmarks).
