This is a handsome, fine binding set of "THE COMPLETE WORKS OF SHAKESPEARE" - edited by William Cullen Bryant. 1889; The Amies Publishing Company; New York. Complete set in three volumes. The volumes are grouped into the following categories: Volume I "Comedies"; Volume II "Historical Plays"; Volume III "Tragedies and Poems." The set is beautifully illustrated with 100 full-page engraved photogravures by Felix O.C. Darley and Alonzo Chappel (with an "explanatory page" preceding each engraving). Nicely bound in three-quarter leather with gilt on the covers and spines, marbled end papers, and four raised bands on the spines. Hefty, over-sized set - the volumes measure 12" tall x 10" wide and weigh nearly 20 pounds.

VOLUME I: The Tempest; The Two Gentlemen of Verona; Measure for Measure; The Comedy of Errors; Much Ado About Nothing; Love's Labour's Lost; Midsummer-Night's Dream; The Merchant of Venice; As You Like It; The Taming of the Shrew; All's Well that Ends Well; Twelfth Night - or, What You Will; The Winter's Tale; The Merry Wives of Windsor.
VOLUME II: King John; King Richard the Second; First Part of King Henry the Fourth; Second Part of King Henry the Fourth; King Henry the Fifth; First Part of King Henry the Sixth; Second Part of King Henry the Sixth; Third Part of King Henry the Sixth; King Richard the Third; King Henry the Eighth.
VOLUME III: Troilus and Cressida; Coriolanus; Titus Andronicus; Romeo and Juliet; Timon of Athens; Julius Caesar; Macbeth; Hamlet; King Lear; Othello; Antony and Cleopatra; Cymbeline; Pericles, Prince of Tyre; Venus and Adonis; The Rape of Lucrece; A Lover's Complaint; The Passionate Pilgrim.
Condition:
VOL I: tight binding with no cracks; both covers are firmly attached; wear to cover corners; a cluster of pages (291-302) are still attached, but have pulled from the top and bottom strings and are loose; foxing to the illustrated plates, and to the pages before/after them; inscription written in pen dated 1962 on front end paper. VOL II - tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages; both covers are firmly attached; wear to cover corners; foxing to the plates, and to the pages before/after them. VOL III: split along the right edge of the spine where it meets the front cover (though the front cover remains firmly attached); wear to the cover corners; foxing to the plates, and to the pages before/after them. Overall the set is in Good- condition.

Its is Shakespeare in all its glory and such a beautiful volume. My fingers itch to reread Hamlet, Macbeth and every sonnet he ever wrote!
