About This Item

London: The Nonesuch Press, 1957. Cloth. Near Fine. 8.5" by 5.5". None. The complete collection of works by the noted William Blake, printed by the Nonesuch Press private press. This work has been designed by Francis Meynell, and composed in Ehrhardt types by the monotyping service in Gough Square London. It was printed and bound at Beccles in Suffolk by William Clowes and Sons using paper made by Robert Fletcher and Son.In the publisher's original quarter red cloth with marbled cloth to the boards. Lacking scarce acetate dust wrapper. This features the complete works of William Blake, a seminal figure in the history of poetry and visual arts of the Romantic Age.The Nonesuch Press specialised in limited edition and private press. They were founded by Francis Meynell, his second wife Vera Mendel and their friend David Garnett. Their aspiration was for their publications to be aligned with the same aesthetic standards as the private press movement. They were unusual as they used a small Albion press to design the books, but had them printed by commercial printers. In doing so, books with the quality of a fine-press were produced, but available to a wider audience at lower prices. In the publisher's original cloth. Externally excellent with only very minimal bumping to the tail of the spine. Old ink inscription dated 1960 to the front free endpaper with minor offsetting from the brodart to the endpapers and slight rubbing to the rear pastedown. Internally firmly bound with clean and bright pages. Near Fine
