London: Jacobum Hodges, 1749. Full Leather. Fair binding. Title continued: "In quibus Chaldaicae, etiam Librorum Esdrae, & Danielis suo loco inseruntur: Deinde post Thematum seu Radicum omnium derivata & usus latius deducta; ac linguae Chaldaicae, Syriacae, & Arabicae, Vocabulorumque Rabbinicorum cum Hebraicis convenientiam; Latina ad verbum versio adjungitur, ad quam vulgatae, & Septuaginta Editionum differentia fideliter expenditur: Demum Nomina propria ad calcem novo ordine digeruntur." A massive work offering Latin translations of Hebrew words with references to the Vulgate and Septuagint readings. Based on Nathan's Hebrew Concordance (1523), Calasio's life's work was originally published in 1622, just two years after his death. Uncommon. Folio. Vol I: [26] p., 1366 columns [1 (blank)] p.; II: [4] p., 1234 columns, [1 (blank)] p.; III: [4] p., 1326 columns, [1 (blank)] p.; IV: [4] p., 852, 184 columns, [1 (blank)], [3 (subscribers)], [86 (indices)] pp. Second edition. Full bound in contemporary calf with red morocco title labels on the spines; bindings heavily worn at the corners and joints with occasional and significant loss to the leather; boards remain attached, but the leather is separated at all joints; still, the robust bindings are fairly strong; each volume with an engraved vignette on title page by Claude Du Bosc; concordance is laid out in two columns throughout, various degrees of light foxing and toning, but clean on the whole; a few leaves with closed tears--a couple of which are sizable; some dampstaining to the textblock edges which occasionally encroaches on the pages; ex-library copies with bookplates on the pastedowns, stamps to some leaves, and labels to the spine. Despite the wear this set remains stately. ESTC T101172.
