Laid-in is a ANS on a personal mailing card, postmarked June 25, 1949, with Isherwood's residential California address and phone number with old exchange printed at the top verso for message - 333 E. Rustic Road Santa Monica, California S. M 43913. Isherwood writes a chatty note to friend Hamilton Wright, confirmed "bachelor" with Manhattan address and Connecticut country house, wishing him well at Ham's Florida summer residence ("too hot for me. Here it's perfect" (meaning Santa Monica). He concludes " 'The S. American book will be appearing in the fall.
