About This Item
Amsterdam, 1654. A rare early map of Ireland by the famous Blaeu family of Amsterdam possibly the most important cartographers of there time, centre fold with a fairly large but not heavy damp stain at the bottom, & small tear just above the cartouche, trimed close to the plate mark but still showing. A very fine cartouche and decorated milage scale, complete with a rural scene of two sheep and two young shepherds, surmounted by the Irish harp below a Royal Crown , a second cartouche is in the top right hand corner with the British heraldic shield showing the crests of England, Scotland, Wales, & Ireland flying the St Georges Cross flags with another Royal Crown. A handsome map with early or possibly contemporary hand fine colouring. Provenance= from the library of THE MACDERMOT , Prince of Connaught, Coolavin Co sligo who is named on the map. RARE.
