First edition, with the "S" like ornament present on page 59. Lacking the half-title page and with broken type on page 72. BAL 3429. Published by Charles L. Webster & Company, New York, 1889. Illustrated throughout with numerous black and white drawings. Measures approximately 8.5" x 7", 575 pages, with an additional page of publisher's advertisements. The book is in very good minus condition. Spine has been professionally rebacked with matching maroon cloth. Original leather cloth boards have been preserved as much as possible. Front endpaper chipped with a large piece missing at the lower corner. Christmas gift inscription from 1889 from Howard Platt on the first blank page.
