About This Item
New York: E. P. Dutton & Co., 1954. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Good. FIRST PRINTING of First Edition. SIGNED by "E.P. Hillary", "George Lowe" and "Charles Evans" in navy pen on the first blank page. Original blue cloth covers & tan cloth spine. With postal slip commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the first ascent of Everest hand signed by John Hunt & hand signed by Tenzing. This commemorative item measures 137mm x 87mm and has 25th Anniversary logo (Mt Everest image) printed in maroon on front and has 7 P postage stamped in maroon in upper corner. It is signed by Tenzing & by Hunt next to the logo. The other side is completely blank. It is in flawless condition, loosely included with the book (in protective glassine sleeve). Th book has a slight bump to tip of upper front corner, very slight fading to cover edges, clean covers, tight binding, no foxing, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages -- but the signed page is inscribed and dated 1-29-54 in what is probably the handwriting of Charles Evans (based on comparison with other examples of his handwriting). The signatures were obtained almost certainly during the 1954 lecture tour by the 3 climbers for the film of the climb. The original dust jacket has the usual fading to spine, small loss lower spine, tiny loss very tips corners, original price on flap still intact. Book measures 221mm tall x 145mm, and has 300 pages, 71 b/w & 8 color photos, 4 maps, sketches, 9 appendices, glossary, index. PHOTOS ARE OF ACTUAL ITEM BEING OFFERED.
