About This Item

New York: Albert Constantine & Son, Inc., 1949. Original Paper Wraps. Good Plus to Very Good. The 1949 edition of the catalogue of this New York City-based family firm that provided fine and rare woods and the "know-how" for using them to woodworkers and other craftspeople. More than just a catalogue of "hard-to-get" materials and tools, this issue is a DIY manual on veneers and inlays and features a glossy color fold-out inlay identification panel as well as six other full color pages of various inlays. About 6 3/4 x 8 1/4 inches, 112 pages in stapled binding with pictorial paper wrappers showing a forest lumbering scene on the front and back covers. Previous owner neatly tape-repaired the covers which had started to split at the spine ends. Staples continue to hold rest of catalogue firmly and lower staple still holds covers to text. That noted, covers and text are complete, clean and unmarked, with list of price changes, order form and return envelope laid-in. No torn or dogearred pages. Numerous drawings, diagrams and photo reproductions of woods, parts, tools and other materials as well as extras such as an article on the use of woods in sports. A small but fine example of mid-20th century craft history.
