About This Item

This is an antique beverage book, "COOLING CUPS AND DAINTY DRINKS - Collection of Recipes for 'Cups' and Other Compounded Drinks, and of General Information on Beverages of All Kinds" by William Terrington. 1870; George Routledge and Sons; London. Decorative cloth binding with gilt on the front cover and spine. There are 16 pages of publisher's advertisements at the back (a couple are illustrated). The contents are grouped as follows: Wines; Alcohol; Alcoholic Cordials; Liqueurs and Syrups; Bitter Drinks; Ale and Beer; Aerated Beers; Cider and Mead; Aerated Waters; Refrigeration; Temperature Beverages; Essences and Spices Used in Making Cups. The book is smaller in size - it measures 6 1/2" tall x 4 3/8" wide.

Condition:
Clean front cover; some very light soiling on the back cover; there is a small, dark stain at the bottom half of the spine. Bright gilt on the front cover and spine. Tiny cloth tears at the cover corners. Small cloth tears at the top and bottom edges of the spine; a small piece of cloth has torn away at the top-left corner of the spine. Tight binding. A small cluster of pages at the front (from the Preface page to page xiii) have pulled at the top edge (though the pages still remain attached). Both covers are firmly attached. The paper along the hinge has split between the front end paper and pastedown (though the front cover remains securely in place). The text pages are lightly age-toned with an occasional light smudge here and there. About a dozen or so pages at the back have a small foxing spot at the bottom edge. Overall the book is in Good+ condition.
