About This Item

Worcester, MA: The Davis Press, 1906. Hardcover. A good reading copy with unmarked contents but some general wear internally (light age toning, faint water stain, and some soiling, all to outer fore edges of pages; art school ex-lib. copy with usual marks. First signature is pulling away at lower hinge, and title page has a small tear at gutter.). A rebound copy, possibly the work of an art student, and done long ago (1950s or earlier): plain, grey cardboard with black hand lettering and border; vellum spine with same lettering. Grey pastes-down end papers may be original paperback covers (?), and original ffep missing. 118 pp. with 35 bw figures. This book comprises an illustrated text book for teachers and students in the manual arts, with a specific focus on copper work. The main aim of this text is to specify the necessary equipment and suggest some of the main possibilities of the course. This text contains an abundance of illustrative material consisting of drawings and photographs of various objects, and also comprises a detailed description of the processes necessary for the execution of many of the designs. Written with the beginner in mind, this is a text that will be of much use to anyone with an interest in the subject and is not to be missed by discerning enthusiasts. The chapters of this book include: Introduction, Equipment, Materials; Problems, Escutcheons and Hinge Tails; Drawer and Door Pulls and Hinges; Finger Plates, Pad Corners, Box Corners, Stamp Box and Match Box; Sconce, Picture Frame, Soldering, Repousse or Embossing; and much more besides.
