About This Item

New York, NY, U.S.A.: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, LLC, 2001. In a clear protective Brodart Cover. Winner of the coveted National Book Award, inundated by the the publicity surrounding the selection by Oprah Winfrey's book club, and hailed as a breakthrough novel, this is the true first edition of this amazing novel with the erratum slip, which states "We have discovered that the text on pages 430 and 431 of THE CORRECTIONS was reversed in this printing, i.e., page 431 should be read before page 430 . We apologize for this error." Selected as one of the 20 best young American novelists by Granta magazine, Jonathan Franzen delivers a tour-de-force in this sharp and tragic novel that took him a decade to write. He explores the Lamberts, a dysfunctional Midwestern family on the verge of self-destruction as they gather together for a Christmas meal that may very well be their last as a family. This has since gone into multiple printings, though a corrected first printing without the erratum slip does exist. A highly regarded and collectible book that also has been mentioned numerous times as a possible nominee for the Pulitzer Prize. Light bumping to spine ends, wear/rubbing to rear flap, nick to top page edge, small crease inside flap.. True First Edition, First Printing.. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine.

Synopsis

Jonathan Franzen is an American novelist and essayist. This novel, The Corrections, is the winner of the National Book Awards for the year 2001. The book has been described as having substantial breadth and well worth reading. It is centered upon a wish by a wife and mother to have her family home again for one last Christmas. Enid lambert has been caring for her husband, Alfred, who is losing his mind to Parkinson’s disease and her children have scattered and are running their own catastrophic lives. The author is quoted as saying that his novel focuses on topics such as the multi-generational transmission of family dysfunction and the waste inherent in today's consumer economy, and each of the characters "embody the conflicting consciousness and the personal and social dramas of our era.” What emerges from the high drama is the wildly brilliant, hilarious feast of cultural analysis.   International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award Nominee (2003) , National Book Award for Fiction (2001) , James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Fiction (2002) , Time Magazine 100 Best English Language Novels of the Twentieth Century
