London: J. Harris, 1827. 1st Edition . Good Plus. 4.5 x 6.75 inches (11.5 x 17.5 cm). Quarter roan with printed paper covered boards. Slight wear to ends of spine, leather rubbed. Boards rubbed and marked with wear to corners. Several pages are protruding from the page block, but securely bound with all pages fully attached. Complete with 18 plates, containing 72 hand coloured illustrations, plate 13 is bound as the frontis, plates 15 and 18 are bound in the wrong sequences. Gift inscription to front free endpaper: 'William Morris Beaufort from his dear godfather Admiral Sir James Morris. K.C.B. 1828'. Morris was in command of HMS Colossus at the Battle of Trafalgar, where he was severely wounded. A nice solid example of this scarce first edition, with interesting provenance.
