Fine/Near Fine. 12mo (7 1/4" x 4 7/8"), gray cloth with black labels & gold lettering on spine and ruling on cover, archival polyester-protected lettered dust jacket (price-clipped) with inset B&W sketch of Gide, publisher's gray topstain; gray-patterned Running Torchbearer ML endpapers; [ix] + 432 pages + [6] Ads. SUPERIOR CONDITION: internally tight, clean, bright; externally the dj is bright with light edgewear.<br/> <br/> Copyright states 1955. Toledano Guide (pp.165, 176) indicates a later date range of 1954-59 for the pattern on the rear panel of the dust jacket. It's internal dj number is "415," which indicates a date on or about 1962. <br/> <br/> André Gide (1869 - 1951) was a French author who won the Nobel Prize in Literature (in 1947). Gide's career ranged from the symbolist movement to anticolonialism. The New York Times described him as "France's greatest contemporary man of letters."
