His bookplate to the front paste-down, and a note on receiving the book in his handwriting to the front free end paper. An A4 flyer for the book is tipped onto the front free end paper, and the export/courier details for the book pasted onto the rear end paper. Loosely inserted is card-bound proof of Stearn's article "Thunberg's Visit to Japan" that appears in the book, along with proof title page etc. Pp. vii, 594; numerous b/w plates. Dust jacket a little worn and rubbed to edges, cut to rear jacket panel. Contents clean and tight, pages edge a little marked. A very good copy. Scarce. [Provenance: from the library of Prof. William Stearn, with his bookplate to the front paste-down, "doyen of British botanists" who wrote c. 500 papers and books, including the classic "Botanical Latin". He was an authority on Linnaeus and an expert on botanical illustration.].
