Philadelphia: Carey, Lea & Blanchard, 1835. Three volume set of the early collection of essays and sketches by Irving. Volume One (A Tour On The Prairies) is a second state of the first edition, with "harbinger of dawn" on page 247, "No. 1" on paper spine. Volume Two (Abbotsford and Newstead Abbey) has copyright date on both title pages, publisher's catalog 36 pages in length. Volume Three (Legends of the Conquest of Spain) contains no publisher's catalog, copyright date on both title pages. All three volumes bound in green muslin with paper spine labels, each measuring approximately 4.5 x 7.5 inches. All three show scuffing and wear to covers, some spots of soil, paper spine labels chipped and worn, Volume Two heavily. Bindings generally secure, front hinge a bit loose in Vol. 1, Vol. 2 rear hinge loose; shows signs of previous repair. Vol. 1 first title page and advertisement notice page show 2.5 x 1 inch tear and loss at top outside corner. Vol. 2 has a tear on lower portion of first title page. Vol. 3 has lower outside corner tear on pages 139-144, no text missing. All three show mild to moderate foxing.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good.
