Original publisher's full blue-green cloth binding decorated with dark blue, white, and gilt. Cover illustration is sharp and has a floral pattern in a diamond pattern. Spine lettered in gilt and decorated with similar pattern. Beautifully preserved. Cover clean with good color. Corners sharp. Contents clean. Christmas 1905 inscription to George W. Avery (1832-1910)[Waterford, CT]. Hardbound. Very Good+. Hobart C. Chatfield-Taylor (1865-1945) was an American writer, novelist, and biographer. Herbert S. Stone was one of the premier printers and small publishers of the era. His father Melville, was the founder of the Chicago Daily News and general manager of the Associated Press. NW59. Hardcover. Donnelley and Sons at The Lakeside Press (this was the author's last publication with Stone's firm). VG- in cloth (slight wear to head and foot of spine, slight warping to spine cloth, slight stains/rubbing to covers, slight internal browning, few rough foredges, previous owner's name on front free endpaper).

1902. CHATFIELD-TAYLOR, H.C. THE CRIMSON WING. Chicago: Herbert S. Stone, 1902. 12mo., pictorial green cloth, stamped in red, orange & white; 356 pages. First Edition. A romantic novel set during the Franco-Prussian War. Signed presentation from Chatfield-Taylor on the front endpaper, to a longtime Iowa Congressman: "To The Honorable David B. Henderson, with the compliments of the author. March 4, 1902." Henderson (1840-1906) was a 10-term Republican Congressman from Iowa and was Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1899-1903. We was also the first Congressman elected west of the Mississippi River and the last Civil War veteran. Good (some edgewear & hinges appear tightened with some cracking to the front hinge, but still tight; cover fairly unrubbed). $125.00.
