About This Item

London: Victor Gollancz, 1950. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Good+. Blue cloth binding, no obvious faults though gilt sp.lettering a tad dull; 154 pp., tanning to inner strip of r. end-paper offset from wraparound, outer side of rear end-paper fairly heavily tanned, otherwise no obvious internal faults being clean, tight and unmarked, unclipped jacket generally clean but sl. dustiness to back and tanning along spine which is quite darkened, internally repaired short tears to top front spine corner and back outer edge, sl. rubbing to sp., sp. lettering slightly overlaps onto back, back wraparound browned/tanned down outer edge (will add protective sleeve when ordered). One of the prolific Joad's more serious more serious philosophy books. An eminent mid-century public intellectual figure Joad's reputation soon declined after his death in 1953. Although clearly charismatic he is, in retrospect, a far from attractive figure (see Wikipedia entry). 14 cm x 22 cm
