The Expedition was led by Fuchs with Hilary, leader of the New Zealand support party. Fuchs spent two years preparing and doing reconnaissance from the Shackleton base before setting out with a party of twelve men to the South Pole then on to Scott base two thousand miles away. In the meantime Hilary blazed a trial for the crossing party to follow after they reached the pole. A thrilling story of adventure into the unknown accomplishing a feat of courage and endurance. 338 pages with 30 colour and 63 monochrome illustrations, and 11 maps including endpapers. Book in very good+ condition. Dust jacket in good condition with 7cm and 2cm tear top back, knocks, dents to edges, and some wear (see photo).
