1937. An Anthology of the Literature of Social Protest. Selected from Twenty-Five Languages Covering a Period of Five Thousand Years. Edited by Upton Sinclair. With an Introduction by Jack London. Illustrated with Reproductions of Social Protest in Art. New York City and Pasadena California: published by Upton Sinclair, n.d.[1937?]. Original maroon cloth, with printed dust jacket. First Upton Sinclair-published edition -- this was originally published by John Winston with a copyright date of 1915, but Upton Sinclair was later able to buy the copyright and publish this version (his books listed on the rear panel of the dust jacket came out as late as 1937). This is an almost-900-page anthology of socialist literature, passages and quotes from almost every author and statesman imaginable. Jack London provided a three-page Introduction (dated March 6, 1915 in Honolulu); there is also a brief quote from him (on page 519): "Far better to have the front of one's face pushed in by the fist of an honest prize-fighter than to have the lining of one's stomach corroded by the embalmed beef of a dishonest manufacturer." This is a fine copy, in a very good-plus dust jacket (wear at both ends of the spine, not affecting print).
