Florence, Italy: Privately Printed, 1925. 2nd printing; tan wraps, litely chipped, in mylar protective wraps; 54pp. Lawrence wrote the introduction to Magnus's book 'Memoirs of the foreign Legion', which was published posthumously in 1924, Magnus having committed suicide in Nov 1920 in Malta. Douglas was unhappy with DHL's treatment of Magnus, as well as his habit of putting real people in his books -- which ND considered 'not only bad literature but bad breeding.', and published his comments on the affair in this small pamphlet. Lawrence replied to the attack in a letter to the 'New Statesman' entitled 'The Late Mr. Maurice Magnus' which was printed in 1926. The first edition, first printing, was published in 1924. 1st.
