About This Item

Sauk City, Wisconsin: Arkham House,, 1965. First edition, first printing, of the first hardback appearance of "Dagon". This title also includes Lovecraft's seminal essay "Supernatural Horror in Literature", first published in 1927, and an introduction by August Derleth, co-founder of Arkham House. Arkham House, named after Lovecraft's fictional New England city, was founded two years after the author's death in 1937 to produce hardback editions of Lovecraft's fiction, which had first appeared in pulp magazines. The publishers have since gone on to become specialists in the "weird fiction" subgenre. Octavo. Original black boards, spine lettered in gilt, grey endpapers. With dust jacket. Occasional rubbing to extremities of bright jacket, couple of smudges to front fold, light marks to rear panel: a fine copy in near-fine jacket.
