About This Item

New York Graphic Society, 1968. Revised edition. Hardcover. SIGNED. 176pp. Quarto [27 cm] Chartreuse cloth over boards with the title stamped in gilt on the backstrip. Very good. The edges of the spine and covers are a bit dinged, and the bottom fore edge corners of the covers are slightly soiled. In a good only dust jacket, with numerous tears and small losses. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, to the noted Utah photojournalist, Nelson Wadsworth. The author, Beaumont Newhall, was a recognized authority in the field of the history of photography, and held positions with the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He was also appointed librarian at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1935, where he organized the first photographic exhibition there in 1937.
