About This Item

Paris; nd, [ca.1825]: Chez Lefuel. 12mo. Six parts in one volume, each part paginated separately, hand colored vignette title page and six other striking hand colored plates heightened in gold by Gabriel Montaut, three musical scores titled Romance de Tristan, Ballade Du Chateau Gazon and Le Serin Chant Dialogue by Frederic Sageret, book printed by Firmin Didot who was from the very famous Didot family of printers, publishers, typeface designers, inventors and intellectuals. Firmin himself designed the Didot typeface and invented the stereotype. Beautifully bound by V. Champs in 3/4 dark blue morocco over marbled paper covered boards, flat spine decorated in gilt and blind, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, ribbon marker. Only occasional spots of scattered foxing, the plates are exceptionally nice. An extremely rare book. Only one copy at auction since 1949, and only a handful located via OCLC. A beautiful copy.
