London: Mathews & Leigh, 1809. Hardcover. Very Good. Printed for Mathews & Leigh, Strand, by W. Clowes, Northumberland-Court. 2 volumes (viii, 224, [4] p.; [4], 155, [13] p.); 18 cm. Contemporary full tree calf with six spine compartments between gilt rules; red leather label in second compartments with gilt-tooled title: A Dane's Excursion. Boards edges have gilt-rolled decoration. Four pages of publisher's advertisements for Mathews and Leigh follow text in vol. 1. Twelve-page index follows text in vol. 2. Engraved bookplate on front fixed endpaper of vol. 2 of Stoneleigh Abbey, the seat of the Rt. Honble. Lord Leigh. Former owner's name on front free endpaper and back fixed endpaper of vol. 2: H.E. Cockshott. J.A. Andersen is a pseudonym used by Andreas Andersen Feldborg (1782-1838). First edition of the Danish writer's account of his first experiences in England and Scotland, including an account of an interview with Admiral Lord Nelson and Emma Hamilton. Very scarce. Lacking vol. 1 title page; otherwise in Very Good Condition: modern archival spine and joint repair; lacking upper part of vol. 1 half title without loss of printing; a few page corners creased; scattered foxing; otherwise clean and tight.
